"With Arms Like Wands" is yet another example of the bands skill at integrating different styles of music within a framework of black metal and its also as intense and intensely moving as anything theyve done to date.
It storms right from the start with a surging hail of riffs, torrential drumming, rapid-fire bass munitions, and throat-tearing acidic howls. After that rousing start, the storm subsides, passing into a somber yet poignant mid-section that features a heart-wrenching guitar solo as Keenan Nathan Oakes shrieks reach new heights of soul-rending anguish. But as good as the first half of the song is, it still hasnt reached its peak.
The power of the music builds again, driven by an intense drum performance, with layers of rippling guitar chords magnifying the musics emotional appeal. The song reaches its crescendo in a high, trilling guitar melody that reaches out and seizes attention in a way thats electrifying and even then, one more affecting guitar melody still awaits before the song fades away.
As a first single from the album, With Arms Like Wands is a great choice but its only the first of many gems in a superb album thats going to re-focus the worlds attention on a very talented band from a far-away place (and we will have much more to say about it when the time is right) - www.nocleansinging.com

Three years have passed since Wildernessking burst upon the global metal scene with their critically praised debut album The Writing of Gods In the Sand. The band have not been idle since then, releasing two well-received EPs And the Night Swept Us Away (2012) and The Devil Within (2014) as well as tracks for split releases in 2014 and early 2015. But based on some advance listening weve been lucky to experience, Mystical Future represents their most accomplished and powerful music yet. More cohesive, more dynamic in its scope, and more personal in its lyrical focus, the album represents a significant step ahead for a band who have already made a big impact in a short space of time. Though Wildernesskings already demonstrated talent for writing sweeping, impassioned, and memorable melodies is still very much in evidence, what weve heard from Mystical Future is even more dark, intense, and electrifying. The music combines the harrowing ferocity of black metal and searing, acidic vocals with vibrant, multi-textured melodies that will send listeners on a dramatic journey through shifting moods they wont soon forget. Its an album thats ambitious in its conception and truly impressive in its execution, and it will undoubtedly further elevate Wildernesskings reputation as a band to watch very closely.
- NO CLEAN SINGING
As noted, Mystical Future will be released in December 2015 on cassette by Grimoire Cassette Cvlture (USA) and Monotonstudio Records (Dortmund). The album was mixed and mastered by Jack Shirley (Botanist, Deafheaven, Bosse-de-Nage) in California, and recorded with Daniel Thackwray in Cape Town, South Africa. The track list is as follows:
SIDE A
White Horses [9:37]
I Will Go To Your Tomb [6:07]

WILDERNESSKING "I Will Go To Your Tomb" VIDEO PREMIERE
Ive been trying to find a place for Cape Town, South Africa's Wildernessking on Invisible Oranges for some time. Their 2012 album The Writing of Gods in the Sand came across my radar at a time when I felt a tremendous optimism for black metal. PANOPTICONs Kentucky had just been released and most people were only hearing Cormorants Dwellings for the first time. I felt the genre embracing folkish melodies and aiming for elegant musicianship.
The years since have not born that future out completely but Wildernessking still play slick, melodic and engrossing black metal on their upcoming second album, Mystical Future. Producer Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Crowhurst) has polished their aforementioned Cormorant-isms to a mirror shine, as evident in I Will Go to Your Tomb.
Wildernessking applied the same polish to the I Will Go to Your Tomb music video as well. Some creative editing and high-contrast photography come together to create a video that celebrates the landscape and traditional culture of South Africa while hinting at the countrys troubled and often violent past.
